Dopefish
"Big Bad Wolf EP"
Dopefish lets rip...
As DJ System D, Dopefish helped introduce Drum and Bass to his native Belgium in the mid 90's, playing and promoting alongside the likes of Grooverider, Andy C, Dj Hype, Goldie, Zinc, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Matrix, Pendulum, Reprazent, Roni Size, Dom and Roland, London Elektricity, Clipz, Dillinja, Bad Company, J Majik, Dj Marky, Qemists, Carl Cox, and Laurent Garnier.
But when not bringing the jungle heat to Belgique, Dopefish lets rip with sets that incorporate everything from breaks, house and electro to baile funk, hip-hop, Miami bass and grime/dubstep.
This, his UK debut ep for Y4K combines kick ass bass pressure with anarchic art rave sensibilities, plundering his vinyl collection old and new for bite size chunks of classic hardcore, funk and rap, tying it all together with slamming 4/4 rhythms and system shredding bass lines.
'Big Bad Wolf ' rocks the Outlander 'Vamp' rave piano stab to within an inch of it's life, slamming in and out of the mix as the squelchcore bassline does it's damage. 'Swim Swim Hungry' starts of a bit trippier before all hell breaks out again. Anyone feeling Nadastrom or Fake Blood at the moment wants to be checking this stuff.
On the remix front, we've got south London youngster Scott Cooper representing the 3rd generation of fidget and going to work on 'Big Bad Wolf ' with a fat, stripped back workout that jacks like a Relief record whilst teasing snatches of the original in and out to maximum effect .
Midlands' dubsteppa Juttla rounds things off as he slows things down, takes the Outlander stab and drops it onto the offbeat for skanking purposes before adding a large wobble-riff for the head nodders and red eyed ravers.
